E-books Replace Real Books

, by Building Rubble

The gadget world is dominated by convenience and portability. E-books, like the Kindle and the Nook, are making reading easier for everyone by allowing users to store hundreds of books on a device lighter than the average paperback. Public libraries have started to realize the growing popularity of e-books and have decided to make a change in their book lineup. Starting in the spring of 2015, public libraries will no longer possess the towering shelves of dusty books and the smell of old paper we've all come to know and love. Instead, they will have boxes of e-books available to be rented. They will have several books in a random combination, unknown to the person renting them, in order to increase the amount of readers who diversify their reading. The plan will be very expensive to implement even though the prices of e-books have come down, but the old books will be used to help defer some of the cost. "We're just going to burn the old books in the fireplaces to save on electricity in the winter. We have to find something to do with them," says librarian Gertrude Walker, in between her shushings of whispering teenagers. Many are sad to see the old books go, but realize that change is necessary and they will have to deal with the fact that e-books are on the rise. Remember to visit your local library in 2015 to check out an e-book!
