$40,000 Goes Fast in New York

, by Building Rubble

A few New York college students bought a couch at a thrift shop earlier this month for $20 and were shocked when they found that it was stuffed with $40,000 in cash. The students were initially ecstatic, but then realized that they still had to get the couch home. After they eventually hailed a cab that would be able to fit the massive couch and all of the money inside it, the meter started running. In rush hour traffic, the students had to ship the sofa across the entire city. By the time they reached their apartment four hours later, the cab meter had reached $38,723.89. Reluctantly, they paid the driver who immediately slammed into fourteen parked cars out of excitement. The remaining
$1276.11 was split evenly among the students who then began to haul the couch up the stairs to their apartment. After lugging the heavy sofa up four flights of stairs, they decided that they should go out for dinner where they ultimately spent the money they had leftover after paying the cab. A story has been made up that the students returned the money to the owner of the couch, but this is just a tall tale fabricated to avoid letting the general public know how expensive New York is. It was feared that word of the expenses made by these students would scare tourists out of visiting the state.
